Bhubaneswar: On Friday, Odisha Vigilance officials apprehended Sai Darshini Lenka, a Revenue Inspector from the Kaupada Circle in Kendrapada district, for allegedly accepting a bribe amounting to Rs 5,500.

Lenka is accused of soliciting this illegal payment to process a mutation application and to facilitate the issuance of a Record of Rights (ROR) for a complainant who had acquired a plot of land from two joint owners a few years prior.

As per the vigilance release, the complainant submitted the mutation application on June 24, 2026. Despite multiple requests for the case to be resolved, Lenka purportedly asked for a bribe of Rs 6,000 in exchange for a favorable report and to hasten the ROR issuance. When the complainant indicated he could not afford the full amount, she allegedly lowered her demand to Rs 5,500.

Frustrated by the ongoing harassment, the complainant reported the matter to the Odisha Vigilance authorities. In response to the tip-off, a vigilance team set up a sting operation and captured Lenka in the act of receiving the bribe from the complainant. The entire sum of Rs 5,500 was recovered as evidence.

Following the arrest, vigilance officials conducted simultaneous searches at three locations connected to Lenka to investigate her disproportionate assets. A case has been filed at the Kataka Vigilance police station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and the investigation is ongoing.
