Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced a forecast predicting increased rainfall throughout Odisha coinciding with the Rath Yatra. A new low-pressure system is anticipated to form over the Bay of Bengal, which is set to deliver extensive rain to the region in the upcoming days.

As per the extended weather forecast, a cyclonic circulation is expected to emerge over the Bay of Bengal around July 13 or 14. This system is projected to strengthen into a low-pressure area by July 17, affecting the northwest Bay of Bengal and the neighboring coasts of Odisha and West Bengal. Consequently, the region should prepare for heightened rainfall activity.

From July 9 to 15, various parts of Odisha are likely to experience scattered rainfall. Specifically, certain districts could face heavy to very heavy rain on July 13 and 14, while northern Odisha may see light to moderate rain on July 10, 11, and 12. On July 10, rainfall is anticipated in districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, and Boudh.

On July 11, similar conditions are expected in Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj. Additionally, light rainfall was reported in Baripada, Paradip, and Kendrapara over the last 24 hours.

The IMD further noted that while overall July rainfall in the country may fall below the normal levels, Kerala and certain areas in East Central India are likely to experience above-normal precipitation.
