Cuttack: Chief Minister Mohan Majhi has officially named Indonesia as the partner country for the Bali Jatra festival in 2026, which will occur from November 26 to December 1 along the banks of the Mahanadi river.

This partnership is set to introduce an international aspect to the annual celebration that honors Odisha’s rich maritime history and the journeys of ancient Kalinga merchants.

The collaboration with Indonesia aims to foster cultural exchanges and bolster cooperation in tourism and various industries.

In a social media update, Majhi emphasized the increasing economic importance of Bali Jatra and revealed that a high-level delegation would travel to Bali as part of the ‘Taking It to Bali’ initiative, while Indonesia will participate as the partner country for the 2026 festival.

Majhi noted that Bali Jatra has evolved from its traditional roots into a significant cultural and economic event. He mentioned that the 2025 festival attracted 6.5 million visitors and generated over Rs 400 crore in business, with participation from 24 states.

In recent years, the Odisha government has been promoting Bali Jatra as a vital opportunity for local artisans, weavers, self-help groups, traders, and entrepreneurs.

Cuttack collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde remarked that Indonesia’s involvement would enhance cultural and economic relations between the two regions. He stated, “Indonesia being the partner country of Bali Jatra 2026 is a significant step towards reviving our historic maritime connections. The association will provide an opportunity to showcase Odisha’s rich heritage while promoting cultural exchange, tourism, and economic cooperation.”
