Bhubaneswar: Chess professional Aparajita Gochhikar from Odisha has been designated as a Fair Play Expert and a member of the Fair Play Panel for the 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad 2026, which is slated to take place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, from September 14 to 28.

Gochhikar makes history as the first Indian woman to serve on the Fair Play Panel of the FIDE Chess Olympiad on two occasions. Additionally, she is the inaugural Indian female recipient of the Fair Play Expert (FPE) title awarded by the International Chess Federation (FIDE).

The upcoming Chess Olympiad is one of the most significant events in the chess world, expected to attract participants from over 200 nations. In total, 400 teams will compete, with 208 in the Open section and 192 in the women’s section during the Samarkand event.

The chess community in Odisha and throughout India has expressed enthusiasm regarding Gochhikar’s appointment, with many players and officials sending their congratulations as she prepares for this prestigious role.

As part of the Fair Play Panel, Gochhikar will play a crucial role in promoting fair play and upholding the integrity of the competition.
