Nikita Porwal represented India at the 2026 Miss World competition, and while she did not take home the crown, she captured the admiration of many with her poise and determination during the 75th-anniversary event held in Vietnam. The Femina Miss India World 2024 was eliminated in the Top 40, falling short of making it to the Top 20. The title was awarded to Joheirry Mola Dominguez from the Dominican Republic, with Elisabeth Reynés from Spain as the first runner-up and Malaysia’s Taanusiya Chetty taking the second runner-up spot.
Following her exit from the competition, Porwal took some time to reflect on her experience and shared a touching message on Instagram, expressing her appreciation for her supporters, team, and the event organizers. She wrote, “I thought the hardest part would be coming home without the crown. I was wrong. The hardest part was finding words big enough for all the love that came home with me. Maybe that’s why it took me a few days to respond. I needed time to process everything this journey gave me.”
Hailing from Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, Porwal began her career as a television anchor before transitioning into acting and theatre. She has participated in over 60 theatrical productions and authored a 250-page play entitled Krishna Leela.
In her emotional note, Porwal reflected on the unique nature of the pageant community, stating, “The strangest and most beautiful thing about the pageant community is that sometimes you don’t know the faces behind the accounts cheering for you. You don’t know who is making that edit at 2 AM or who is writing that long message…But somehow, you know their hearts.” She continued, “I went to Miss World hoping to earn a crown. Somewhere along the way, I earned a family I had never even met.”
Porwal also emphasized the honor of representing India. “For those weeks, my name almost disappeared. Every time someone called out ‘India!’, something inside me stood taller. Of course, I wish I could have brought the crown home. I wanted it deeply. I worked for it deeply. I came home with growth, memories, friendships, love and a version of myself I am still getting to know. And some victories do not sit on your head. They stay in your heart forever,” she concluded.
Her journey in the Miss World competition highlighted a focus on social impact through Project MAATI — Empowering the Keepers of Our Roots, her Beauty With a Purpose initiative. This project aimed to support tribal communities in Madhya Pradesh and Odisha, concentrating on education, healthcare, nutrition, hygiene, clean drinking water, and livelihood opportunities. The initiative provided essential resources such as water filters and nutritional supplies while emphasizing the importance of education and vocational training for tribal youth.
Additionally, Porwal showcased her cultural heritage during the Dances of the World segment, drawing inspiration from Goddess Meenakshi of Madurai in a custom Torani outfit.
This year marks the ninth consecutive instance in which India has not won the Miss World title since Manushi Chhillar’s success in 2017. However, Porwal’s participation in the pageant highlighted the integration of theatre, Indian culture, fashion, and social responsibility, underscoring that the essence of a pageant experience extends beyond merely winning a title.
