Puri: A shocking incident unfolded in Puri town, Odisha, where a 30-year-old woman suffered severe burns after her husband reportedly set her on fire.

The incident took place in the Alamchandi area, under the Kumbharpada police station’s jurisdiction, on Wednesday night.

The victim, identified as Sarojini Mallik, was allegedly attacked by her husband, Bikram Kumar Mallik, aged 37, after a dispute related to family issues.

Upon receiving reports of the situation, a team from Kumbharpada police station quickly arrived at the scene and transported the critically injured woman to a local hospital in Puri for immediate care.

Later, due to the severity of her injuries, she was transferred to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for more specialized treatment.

Initial investigations indicate that financial disagreements within the family may have triggered the altercation, but the precise circumstances leading to the incident are still being determined.

The victim’s family has filed a formal complaint at Kumbharpada police station, which resulted in the apprehension of Bikram for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
