Balangir: On Wednesday, the Odisha Vigilance apprehended the former Secretary of the Juba Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society (PACS) Ltd., located in the Belpada block of Balangir district, for suspected embezzlement exceeding ₹14.22 lakh.

The individual in question has been identified as Chintamani Mallick.

According to the Vigilance department, Mallick is accused of orchestrating a systematic financial fraud involving government and cooperative funds amounting to ₹14,22,046 across the financial years 2016-17, 2020-21, 2021-22, and 2022-23.

An investigation uncovered multiple irregularities, such as unrecorded proceeds from seed sales, exclusion of seed sale revenues from official financial records, deliberate entry of understated closing balances in the Day Book, falsification of bank deposit records to mask discrepancies, and excessive withdrawals from savings accounts.

In relation to this case, Sambalpur Vigilance Police Station Case No. 16/2026 has been filed under the Prevention of Corruption Act against Mallick. He is scheduled to be presented before the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, in Balangir.
