Farmers from multiple states are organizing a significant Mahapanchayat at Kisan Ghat in Delhi on July 21. This march has been initiated by the Desh Bachao Morcha to express opposition to the proposed trade agreement between India and the United States. Reports suggest that approximately 550 farmers’ unions will be involved in the protest, and thousands of farmers from Punjab have already started their journey to the location via numerous buses arranged by the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (KMSC).

Reasons for the Delhi March

KMSC Punjab leader Germanjit Singh Bandala has criticized the proposed trade agreement, asserting that it would disproportionately impact Indian farmers. He contends that the pact primarily serves the interests of American corporations while neglecting the needs of small and marginal Indian farmers. Bandala elaborated that American agriculture benefits from extensive land holdings and substantial subsidies, in stark contrast to Indian farmers, who typically manage plots of only two to three and a half acres with far less financial assistance.

Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher echoed these sentiments, highlighting that prior trade agreements have aimed to expand market access for foreign agricultural products in India. He noted that the US is pushing for reduced tariffs on commodities such as soybeans, maize, cotton, ethanol, apples, and almonds, as well as broader market entry for American dairy products, poultry, fruits, fisheries, and coconut items.

States Participating in the Protest

Reports indicate that farmers from several states, including Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Odisha, are expected to participate in the march in Delhi on July 21, 2026. Many farmers from these regions are reportedly en route to the protest site.
