The situation of migrant workers has drawn attention again in the Kashipur block of Rayagada district, Odisha, after two workers died on the same day.
Jayaram Majhi, a resident of Adjal village in the Kodipari Panchayat, tragically lost his life due to an accident involving a trolley engine while he was working on a railway project in Secunderabad.
Majhi’s family has reached out to local and district authorities for assistance in repatriating his body to the village for his final rites.
In a similar instance, Ranjit Nayak from Nuagaon, belonging to the Maikanch Panchayat, fell seriously ill while working in Kerala and ultimately died while receiving treatment in a hospital.
Reports indicate that Nayak’s body is being brought back to his village via ambulance after his family covered medical expenses amounting to one lakh rupees.
The local community is expressing significant dissatisfaction as young men from Kashipur, an area abundant in minerals and resources, are losing their lives in pursuit of job opportunities in other states.
