Bhubaneswar: Authorities in Kalahandi and Jagatsinghpur districts of Odisha have declared the closure of educational institutions as a preventive measure due to the impending cyclone and expected heavy rainfall.

As per an official directive from the Kalahandi Collector and District Magistrate issued on October 26, all types of educational establishments—including government, government-aided, and private institutions—will remain closed on October 28, 2026. This measure comes in light of forecasts predicting significant rainfall.

The closure will encompass elementary, secondary, and higher secondary schools, including Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas (OAVs), Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs), Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs), and all Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) within Kalahandi district.

The district administration has instructed heads of educational institutions to enforce this order stringently.

Nevertheless, teachers and school staff are permitted to fulfill their regular duties and address any outstanding administrative tasks during the closure period.

Simultaneously, educational authorities in Jagatsinghpur district have also mandated the suspension of all government, government-aided, and private schools for two days—October 27 and 28—due to concerns over heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions linked to the potential cyclone.

This directive applies to primary, upper primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools throughout the Jagatsinghpur district.

All headmasters have been instructed to adhere to the closure order and ensure that relevant information is effectively communicated to the respective institutions.

These actions have been implemented as precautionary steps to minimize risks to students from the expected heavy rainfall and worsening weather conditions.
