Puri Experiences Record October Heat as IMD Predicts Rainfall

Puri has reported its second-highest daytime temperature for October in almost 130 years, hitting 36.6°C on October 5, based on historical records that trace back to 1896.

This recent heat record surpasses the earlier second-highest October temperature of 36.3°C, which was recorded on October 4, 2024. The extreme weather is occurring as the southwest monsoon is withdrawing, coupled with an active atmospheric trough that stretches from Gangetic West Bengal to Madhya Maharashtra, impacting regions including interior Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, and Marathwada.

The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) regional center in Bhubaneswar has issued a widespread Yellow Warning affecting several districts, predicting light to moderate rain, localized heavy showers, and severe thunderstorms with lightning and winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph from October 6 to 9.
