A Special Court located in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh has found two men guilty in a heroin trafficking case that dates back to 2022. Both men have been sentenced to one year of rigorous imprisonment, according to police reports.
On September 22, during a session held at Rampur Bushahr, the Special Judge-II convicted Ritij Sharma, also known as Ritik, aged 24, and Pranshul, 26, who are both from Nankhari in Shimla district. The case stemmed from the recovery of 7.19 grams of heroin.
The police indicated that the case was registered at the Rampur Police Station on May 14, 2022, under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The court’s ruling mandated that both convicted individuals serve one year of rigorous imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs 10,000 each. Should they fail to pay the fine, each will face an additional two months of simple imprisonment.
Shimla Police emphasized their commitment to enhancing investigations and ensuring effective prosecution in drug trafficking cases to achieve successful convictions. They are making ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and to ensure that cases filed under the NDPS Act are thoroughly pursued in court.
Earlier this month, as part of the Anti-Chitta Jan Andolan led by the Chief Minister, the Himachal Pradesh Police organized an awareness program at PM SHRI Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Pekhubela. This initiative addressed issues surrounding drug abuse, cyber safety, and responsible citizenship.
During the program, Lady Constable Nikita engaged with students to raise awareness about the dangers of drugs, specifically highlighting the risks associated with chitta. She encouraged students to avoid drug use and informed them about the 112 Police Helpline. Additionally, she motivated teachers to be observant regarding the potential signs of drug abuse among children.
Furthermore, DIG Somya Sambashivan inspired the students to strive for excellence and make informed decisions, using examples from the stories of Prahlada, Abhimanyu, and Eklavya to underscore the importance of respect for elders, courage, discipline, and strong moral values.
