India is preparing to present its rich culture and local products to both domestic and international journalists and delegates attending the 18th BRICS Summit with a specially curated goodie bag. This event is scheduled for September 12 and 13 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
The goodie bag, designed for attendees, contains nine different items sourced from various regions of India. NDTV journalist Simrin Gupta recently showcased the contents of the BRICS goodie bag in an Instagram video.
“India is going vocal for local,” Gupta remarked while unveiling the hamper.
Among the noteworthy items is sattu from Bihar, which Gupta referred to as one of the state’s best-kept secrets. Made from roasted gram, this nutritious food is celebrated for its high protein content.
Gupta expressed enthusiasm, stating, “This is India’s, or should I say Bihar’s, best kept secret,” while displaying the sattu. She suggested it might soon be recognized in the West as a superfood.
The goodie bag also features 100 percent Arabica specialty coffee from Odisha’s tribal hills, which Gupta noted has an appealing aroma. She highlighted it as another example of India promoting its local products on an international stage.
Additionally, the hamper includes makhana from Bihar, which Gupta described as a beloved snack in India, rivaling the popularity of banana chips. This offers foreign journalists a chance to sample a snack favored across the country.
Also included is a block-printed stole from Gujarat, which Gupta called “absolutely regal” and “so stunning.” The goodie bag further comprises a coffee mug and a tote bag for the summit attendees.
In a thoughtful touch, the goodie bag is equipped with an in-built charging port, allowing journalists to charge their devices on the go.
Anticipating around 1,200 to 1,300 journalists to cover the summit, including many from BRICS member states and partner countries, the Indian government is establishing a dedicated International Media Centre at Bharat Mandapam to facilitate reporting and information access during the event.
The expanded BRICS grouping now includes 11 full members: Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the UAE, along with 10 partner countries: Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
