Bhubaneswar: A significant review meeting concerning law enforcement, crime management, and police operations in districts of the Central Range took place today at the State Police Headquarters, led by DGP Vinaytosh Mishra.
During this meeting, the DGP engaged extensively with District Superintendents of Police (SPs) regarding the current law and order landscape, addressing serious crimes such as murder, theft, robbery, and loot. Discussions also included strategies for reducing fatalities from road accidents, advancing the initiative for a ‘Nasha Mukt Odisha’, tackling cybercrime, expediting case investigations, timely filing of charge sheets, and improving conviction rates.
DGP Mishra highlighted the significance of law and order in the Central Range, noting the presence of several key districts. He instructed that, with numerous festivals approaching—including Ganesh Puja, Nuakhai, Vishwakarma Puja, Durga Puja, Gajalakshmi Puja, Deepavali/Kalipuja, Amla Navami, Panchuk, and Bali Yatra—preparations must begin immediately to ensure safe and orderly celebrations. He stressed the importance of adequate police presence, effective crowd control, and smooth traffic management in sensitive areas during these festivities.
Additionally, he urged SPs to facilitate peace committee meetings and maintain ongoing collaboration with local leaders, community organizations, and influential figures. He underscored the need for constant surveillance of communally sensitive areas and proactive measures to prevent potential disturbances. Emphasizing the value of positive relationships between law enforcement and the community, he instructed local police officers to engage regularly with their neighborhoods and local representatives to address community concerns.
Furthermore, the DGP instructed Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) to routinely visit police stations in their areas to monitor operations, crime investigations, and service delivery. To enhance crime control effectiveness, he called for close monitoring of habitual and organized criminals, along with robust measures against them. SPs were directed to bolster checkpoint operations and patrolling to combat illegal cattle trafficking, mining, and transportation, including conducting regular inspections and legal actions against offenders.
The DGP also highlighted the need for vigilance against rumors and misleading information shared on social media platforms, urging a proactive approach to counter such narratives. He called for strengthening intelligence-gathering systems to anticipate potential criminal activities and respond promptly. Lastly, DGP Mishra advised fostering good communication, teamwork, and coordination at all police levels, from local stations to district and range leadership, to ensure a dedicated and responsible approach to law enforcement.
The meeting saw participation from several high-ranking officials, including ADG (Modernization) Soumendra Priyadarshi, ADG (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar, ADG (Headquarters) Prateek Mohanty, ADG (HRPC) Yatindra Koel, IGP (Personnel) S. Praveen Kumar, IGP (STF) Himanshu Lal, Director (SCRB) Avinash Kumar, DIGP (HRPC) Rajesh Pandit, IGP (Crime) Sarthak Sarangi, IGP (Provisioning) Niti Shekhar, IGP (Central) Satyajit Naik, and DIGP (Personnel) Jugal Kishor Kumar Banoth, along with the SPs from districts in the Central Range.
