Baripada: In a troubling incident in Mayurbhanj district, Odisha, a Class IX student at a residential school has been found to be approximately five months pregnant, leading to the detention of a local youth by police.

Authorities received a report following a complaint from the girl’s family, which led to the registration of a case at Badashahi police station. A young man believed to be involved in the situation has been taken into custody.

The complaint alleges that the minor was sexually assaulted by a neighbor during her summer break. The accused purportedly exploited the absence of other family members and intimidated the girl into silence with threats of severe repercussions.

Upon returning to her school hostel after the vacation, the girl was discovered to be pregnant during a school examination this week, prompting the institution to notify her family.

The family subsequently arranged for a medical examination, which confirmed that she was around five months pregnant. Afterward, the girl shared the details of the incident with her family, who then reported it to the police.

Badshahi police have initiated an investigation into the case. The individual named in the complaint, Rabindra Singh, has been detained at the police station, and further inquiries are currently underway.
