Bhubaneswar: Vedanta Aluminium (BSE: 544780 | NSE: VAML), a prominent aluminium producer in India, has recently expanded its automotive solutions by launching two innovative products within its popular Primary Foundry Alloy (PFA) range.
The new offerings include a Copper-Doped Alloy, designed for high-performance automotive applications, and the Vedanta Foundry Alloy (VFA), a versatile alloy developed in partnership with IIT Delhi to improve durability. These advancements mark significant progress in the creation of next-generation vehicles, promoting lighter, safer, and more efficient automotive designs.
These new products were introduced to key representatives from India’s leading automotive firms and component manufacturers at AutoEdge 2026, Vedanta Aluminium’s specialized event tailored for the automotive industry. Now in its second year, the conclave included various panel discussions, technical presentations, and expert insights regarding future industry trends.
Upon completing its ongoing capacity expansion at the BALCO plant in Korba, Chhattisgarh, Vedanta Aluminium is set to become the world’s largest primary billet producer, boasting a capacity of 1.25 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). Additionally, the company holds the title of India’s largest PFA producer, with an existing capacity of 380 kilo tonnes per annum (KTPA).
Its automotive product lineup features PFA alloys utilized in alloy wheels, cylinder heads, engine components, and various automotive castings, alongside specialized billets for HVAC and crash-resistant engineering applications. Furthermore, Vedanta Aluminium aims to increase its share of value-added products in its portfolio to 90%, driven by the rising demand for high-quality, sustainably produced aluminium both domestically and globally.
Rajesh Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, stated, “India’s automotive industry is rapidly evolving, creating demand for lighter, stronger, and more sophisticated material solutions. Aluminium is uniquely positioned to meet these parameters through its versatile combination of light weighting, strength, durability, resistance to corrosion, and high recyclability.”
Kumar added, “At Vedanta Aluminium, we are strengthening our automotive-grade portfolio with advanced next-generation metals that are fully developed and manufactured in India while meeting world-class performance benchmarks. These innovations reinforce our commitment to the Make in India effort, building globally competitive manufacturing capabilities within the nation.”
The recently launched alloys cater to the automotive sector’s increasing demand for lighter, more efficient vehicles capable of performing under challenging conditions. The Copper-Doped Alloy utilizes copper’s strengthening properties to enhance durability, wear resistance, and performance at elevated temperatures, making it ideal for critical engine, transmission, and powertrain components.
On the other hand, the Vedanta Foundry Alloy merges light weight with increased strength, better corrosion resistance, and improved casting performance, suitable for a variety of applications in both conventional and electric vehicles.
These innovations empower automotive manufacturers to extend component longevity, boost vehicle efficiency and reliability, and adapt to the evolving performance standards of next-generation mobility. Building on its expanding R&D capabilities, Vedanta Aluminium collaborates with OEMs and component manufacturers to co-create advanced material solutions.
This expanded product lineup closely aligns with the Indian automotive industry’s urgent push for localization, supply chain resilience, and self-reliance in essential input materials. Currently, India stands as the largest market globally for two-wheelers and three-wheelers, and ranks third for passenger and commercial vehicles.
By enhancing the availability of high-performance, automotive-grade alloys designed and produced in India, Vedanta Aluminium is helping manufacturers to strengthen domestic sourcing, decrease import dependency, and create agile, future-ready value chains. This initiative directly supports India’s ambition of becoming a global automotive manufacturing hub under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision.
Vedanta Aluminium has embedded quality and sustainability into its product innovation strategy, resulting in a customer base that spans over 60 countries, including key automotive markets like the USA, Japan, Italy, France, and Germany.
The entire product range is available through Vedanta Metal Bazaar, the world’s largest online store for non-ferrous metals, which has recently introduced a new export module for its global clientele.
Its facilities in Jharsuguda, Odisha, and Korba, Chhattisgarh (BALCO), are certified under the globally recognized Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Performance Standards for sustainable operations. Additionally, the company’s product offerings are the first in India to achieve certification across all applicable standards from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
This commitment is supported by a customer-focused approach that combines tailored alloy development, cutting-edge manufacturing, and comprehensive technical support to deliver enhanced value for the automotive sector.
