The police are currently looking into the circumstances surrounding a woman’s death that occurred after she was allegedly given the wrong injection at a pharmacy in Odisha’s Rayagada district.

This unfortunate event happened on Thursday in JK Pur, where the victim, identified as Baidehi Kumar, 55, resided in Getipada village under the jurisdiction of the Chandili police.

Authorities have detained a suspect in connection with the case.

Family members reported that Baidehi had been experiencing fever and cold symptoms for several days. After her condition failed to improve despite taking medication, she sought help at a local medicine store in JK Pur, where a staff member named A K Bhadra is said to have administered an injection.

Shortly after receiving the injection, Baidehi reportedly experienced severe adverse reactions, leading to a rapid decline in her health. Her family quickly transported her to the Rayagada district headquarters hospital, but she unfortunately passed away en route, according to police reports.

The family subsequently filed a complaint at the Chandili police station, claiming that the injection given by the accused contributed to her death.

As a result of the complaint, police detained Bhadra for questioning and initiated an investigation.

“We have received a written complaint from the victim woman’s family. The woman had received the injection at a medicine store. The man who administered the injection has been detained for questioning,” stated Uttam Sahu, the inspector-in-charge (IIC) at Chandili police station.

The police continue to investigate the details surrounding the death, with further actions pending based on the post-mortem report and additional findings. The exact cause of death will be determined following the post-mortem examination and forensic assessment.
