India has successfully executed a test launch of the Agni-4 medium-range ballistic missile from the Integrated Test Range located in Chandipur, Odisha, according to a statement from a Ministry of Defence official.

The launch, which took place on Thursday, confirmed the missile’s operational and technical specifications. It was carried out under the supervision of the Strategic Forces Command.

This latest test of the Agni-4 missile comes after a successful flight test of the Agni-Prime ballistic missile on April 4, 2024, which was also overseen by the Strategic Forces Command and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

On September 6, 2024, the successful test of the Agni-4 was officially announced, with officials highlighting that all operational and technical parameters were met during the launch.

In addition to the Agni missiles, which are capable of carrying nuclear payloads, the DRDO also conducted a flight test of an indigenously developed Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM) on June 15. This test took place from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island along the coast of Odisha.

The Ministry of Defence’s R&D wing reported that all objectives for the LRLACM test were achieved, as verified by various tracking systems deployed at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur.

The missile’s successful performance underscores India’s advancing long-range precision strike capabilities. Senior officials from the DRDO and representatives from the Indian Navy and Air Force witnessed the launch, including the Defence Secretary and the Chairman of the DRDO, Rajesh Kumar Singh.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his congratulations to the DRDO team and industry partners for their successful flight test of the LRLACM, acknowledging the hard work of all involved.
