The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted extensive rainfall across Odisha today, specifically issuing an Orange Warning for the districts of Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj, alongside a Yellow Warning for the remaining 28 districts.
The Meteorological Centre located in Bhubaneswar has indicated that heavy rain is expected in isolated areas, urging residents to stay vigilant as wet weather persists throughout the state.
Thunderstorms and Lightning Forecasted in 13 Districts
Additionally, the IMD has released a nowcast warning for the next three hours, signaling the possibility of rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in 13 districts. The districts included in this short-term weather alert are:
- Keonjhar
- Kandhamal
- Mayurbhanj
- Balasore
- Bhadrak
- Gajapati
- Ganjam
- Koraput
- Nayagarh
- Jajpur
- Cuttack
- Kalahandi
- Kendrapara
Residents in these regions have been advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid open fields and bodies of water, and adhere to official weather advisories.
Rainfall Expected to Diminish on Friday
According to the IMD, rainfall activity is anticipated to decrease slightly across Odisha on Friday, August 7. However, alerts will continue for 20 districts, while no warnings have been designated for the other 10 districts.
Although rainfall is expected to lessen, particularly in the southern and western regions of the state, intermittent showers may persist in various areas.
Residents Urged to Remain Cautious
With above-normal monsoon activity ongoing in Odisha, officials have advised residents to keep track of official weather updates and exercise caution, especially in low-lying areas susceptible to waterlogging and during thunderstorms and lightning events.
