On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated 75 upgraded railway stations across India under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), which includes seven stations located in Odisha. This initiative represents a significant step towards modernizing railway infrastructure and enhancing amenities for passengers.

The seven stations in Odisha—Balangir, Barpali, Paralakhemundi, Talcher, Kesinga, Baripada, and Bimalgarh—have undergone redevelopment at a total investment of approximately ₹109 crore. These stations have been dedicated to the nation after comprehensive modernization efforts.

This redevelopment aligns with the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, a central government initiative designed to turn railway stations into contemporary, user-friendly transport hubs while maintaining the cultural heritage and architectural integrity of their areas.

The newly upgraded stations boast modern facilities, including enhanced station buildings, improved circulation areas, spacious waiting areas, upgraded restrooms, better platform shelters, digital passenger information systems, improved lighting, standardized signage, and enhanced multimodal connectivity. Additionally, some stations are equipped with 12-meter-wide foot overbridges featuring lift facilities to ensure accessible movement for all passengers.

The architecture of the station buildings incorporates local art, culture, and architectural themes to reflect the heritage of their regions.

Officials anticipate that this redevelopment will significantly enhance passenger convenience, boost regional connectivity, and stimulate tourism, trade, and local economic activities. This initiative is part of Indian Railways’ broader commitment to developing world-class railway infrastructure in alignment with the vision for a Viksit Bharat.
