Bhubaneswar: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar will host its sixth convocation on July 18, celebrating a significant achievement in its journey of educational excellence, research, and healthcare services. Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilizers, Anupriya Patel, will be the chief guest at the event and will present degrees to the graduates, as announced by Executive Director Dr. Ashutosh Biswas during a press conference on Friday.
Odisha’s Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling, along with Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha MP Aparajita Sarangi and other distinguished guests, will also be present at the ceremony.
A total of 684 students from various disciplines will be awarded degrees during this convocation. This graduating class consists of 192 MBBS graduates, 163 MD/MS graduates, 60 DM/MCh graduates, 17 Post-Doctoral Fellows, four PhD candidates, 134 BSc (Hons.) Nursing students, 75 BSc (Hons.) Paramedical students, and 39 MSc Nursing graduates.
In honor of academic achievements, AIIMS Bhubaneswar will distribute 61 gold medals to 32 outstanding students.
Among those present at the press briefing were Dean (Academic) Dr. Dillip Kumar Parida, Dean (Examination) Dr. Manaswini Mangaraj, Dean (Research) Dr. Baijayantimala Mishra, Medical Superintendent Dr. Prabhas Ranjan Tripathy, Registrar Dr. Sudipta Ranjan Singh, Deputy Director (Administration) Lt. Col. Abhijit Sarkar, and other senior faculty members.
Additionally, AIIMS Bhubaneswar announced the establishment of a dedicated Neonatal Surgical Intensive Care Unit within its Department of Pediatric Surgery. This new facility will offer preoperative stabilization, postoperative intensive care, and multidisciplinary management for critically ill newborns with congenital and acquired surgical conditions, especially those referred from outside the institute.
As stated by the institute, the new ICU aims to enhance access to advanced neonatal surgical care, minimize unnecessary referrals, and improve survival rates and clinical outcomes. It will also bolster postgraduate education, hands-on training for resident doctors, and clinical research in neonatal surgery and critical care, further solidifying AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s status as a premier tertiary referral center for eastern India.
