Odisha Government to Resolve KG-to-PG Admission Confusion by Covering Student Fees

The Higher Education Department of Odisha is poised to eliminate the existing confusion surrounding the KG-to-PG admission procedure with the upcoming introduction of a specific Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), as announced by Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj.

During a press briefing, Minister Suraj reassured the public that the eagerly awaited SOP would address all uncertainties and streamline the admission process throughout the state. He stated, “The confusion regarding KG-to-PG admissions will be removed very soon. A separate SOP is on the way, and once it is issued, all issues will be settled.”

The state government plans to fully cover the admission fees for students attending grant-in-aid institutions. Following a recent Cabinet decision, the government will extend financial aid to colleges classified as 662 and 488, which will offset the fees that students had previously covered. This financial support will assist college operations, including the salaries of faculty and staff, the purchase of necessary equipment, and routine expenses such as utilities and internet services.

Additionally, the Minister revealed that re-admission fees would be eliminated for students; however, this initiative will not extend to self-financing courses or private colleges.

This announcement follows the Cabinet’s approval of free education from Kindergarten through Post-Graduation, which raised concerns among aided colleges that rely heavily on tuition fees for their financial stability. Many institutions expressed anxiety over their ability to manage administrative costs if student payments ceased.

With the government’s intervention to provide direct funding, students can anticipate a more straightforward admission experience and genuinely affordable access to higher education. The forthcoming SOP is expected to clarify the timeline, amount, and method of fund distribution to colleges.
