The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy rainfall expected to impact a wide area across North, East, Central, and Northeast India over the next few days. States such as Punjab and Haryana are set to experience significant downpours, while Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand anticipate widespread rain and thunderstorms.

According to the IMD’s latest weather report, heavy rain is forecasted for the northern regions of Punjab and Haryana on Friday, July 11, with light rain expected in Delhi later in the day. The department has also cautioned residents about possible thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds in various areas.

In Delhi, residents might find some respite from the humid conditions as light rain is anticipated by evening. Meanwhile, north Punjab and north Haryana are poised to receive heavy rainfall on the same day.

Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are also bracing for extensive rainfall over the coming days:

• Himachal Pradesh: Rainfall is expected from July 11 to July 15, with heavy rainfall anticipated between July 11 and July 14, and isolated showers may persist on July 16 and 17.
• Uttarakhand: Widespread rainfall is predicted from July 11 to July 17, along with heavy rain and the possibility of thunderstorms.

The IMD has forecasted scattered rainfall across much of northwest India, affecting states such as Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi:

• The period from July 11 to July 17 will see rainfall, with heavy rain expected specifically on July 11 and 12.

In Uttar Pradesh, widespread rainfall is likely in the eastern part of the state on July 11, followed by heavy rain from July 12 to July 15, with very heavy downpours on July 11. West Uttar Pradesh should anticipate scattered showers throughout the week.

Jammu and Kashmir may experience thunderstorms along with gusty winds, with forecasts indicating:

• Widespread rain on July 11 and 12, scattered rain from July 13 to 17, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 km/h, with some gusts up to 60 km/h.

In Central India, the monsoon conditions are expected to remain active:

• Madhya Pradesh: Rainfall is likely from July 11 to 17, with heavy rain forecasted in the eastern regions between July 14 and 17.
• Chhattisgarh: Rain is expected throughout the week, with heavy rainfall from July 11 to July 15 and widespread rain from July 14 to 17.
• Vidarbha: Rain is anticipated until July 17, with thunderstorms expected from July 13 to 15.

In the eastern region, states like Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha are also predicted to receive heavy rainfall:

• Bihar: Rainfall is expected from July 11 to 13, with heavy downpours forecasted between July 13 and 15.
• Jharkhand: Rain is likely through July 17, with heavy rain expected from July 12 to 14.
• West Bengal: Both Gangetic and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal are forecasted to receive widespread rain with heavy showers on July 11 and 12.
• Odisha: Rain is predicted from July 11 to 17, with heavy rainfall expected in the same period.

Northeastern states are also preparing for intense monsoon activity, with widespread rain expected across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Notably, Meghalaya may receive isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall on July 11.

Along the western coast, monsoon activity remains robust:

• Konkan and Goa: Widespread rainfall is expected from July 11 to 17.
• Gujarat: Scattered rain is likely throughout the week.
• Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada: Light to moderate rainfall is expected until July 17.

In Southern India, states like Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh are also anticipated to receive scattered rain in the upcoming days.

The IMD urges residents in affected areas to stay vigilant due to the forecasted heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds. Low-lying regions may face waterlogging, and mountainous areas could be susceptible to landslides and slippery roads during heavy rain events.

As the southwest monsoon remains active, many regions across the country are likely to continue experiencing rain over the next week, offering some relief from the heat but also raising concerns for potential weather-related disruptions.
