CBI Detains MCL Security Inspector in Odisha for Rs 5,000 Bribery Charge

Jharsuguda (Odisha) [India], June 11 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Security Inspector from the Orient Area of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) in Brajaraja Nagar, Jharsuguda, Odisha, in connection with a bribery case.

The CBI initiated the case on Thursday, June 11, 2026, following a complaint against the accused. The complaint alleged that the inspector demanded a bribe of Rs. 5,000 from the complainant, an MCL employee, in exchange for assigning Sunday duty on a rotational basis.

On June 11, 2026, the CBI set up a trap and caught the accused red-handed while he was accepting the Rs 5,000 bribe from the complainant. The accused has been detained and is scheduled to be presented in court on Friday.

Further investigations are ongoing.

In a related matter, Odisha Vigilance officials recently arrested an Assistant Executive Engineer stationed at the ITDA office in Baliguda, Kandhamal district, for allegedly possessing assets significantly exceeding his known income sources.

According to Vigilance authorities, simultaneous raids were executed on June 6 at nine locations associated with the engineer, including his home, office, and properties linked to relatives.

During these searches, officials reportedly discovered six buildings, fourteen plots of land, approximately 552 grams of gold, bank deposits totaling around Rs 45 lakh, and cash exceeding Rs 2 crore.

The accused, identified as Baikuntha Nath Behera, was arrested and subsequently presented before the court following the raids.

Vigilance officials noted that Behera began his government career as a Junior Engineer in 1999, earning a monthly salary of about Rs 6,000. His current salary is reported to be around Rs 80,000 per month.

Authorities suspect that the assets were acquired through illicit means, although investigations are still ongoing to ascertain the true source of the wealth.
