A three-member team from the World Bank engaged in detailed discussions with Chief Secretary Anu Garg and other senior state officials on Wednesday, focusing on strengthening the entire value chain of critical minerals in Odisha. The delegation explored potential collaboration with the state government on various initiatives, including the establishment of dedicated critical mineral processing parks to enhance value beyond raw ore extraction. Additionally, the meeting addressed domestic and international investments in mining, beneficiation, refining, and advanced material production.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of developing integrated logistics infrastructure and dedicated industrial corridors to connect mines, processing facilities, and ports. The meeting emphasized the necessity of creating a robust, globally competitive, and resilient critical minerals ecosystem in Odisha through coordinated efforts among the Centre, the state government, and industry stakeholders.
According to official sources, a joint working group is expected to be formed to identify pilot projects, conduct a value-chain gap assessment, and create a roadmap for financing, regulatory support, and private sector involvement. “As critical minerals are essential for semiconductors, EV batteries, renewable energy, defence, and high-tech manufacturing, Odisha’s mineral wealth has become important because of the global competition for secure and sustainable supply chains,” the sources noted.
