Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked on Sunday that modern conflicts are increasingly extending beyond traditional battlefields, with economic systems also becoming targets. He underscored the necessity of fortifying India’s banking sector against threats from ‘cyber terrorists’.
While inaugurating the Reserve Bank of India’s Rs 169-crore data center and Cybersecurity Training Institute in Bhubaneswar, he noted that these initiatives would significantly benefit both the people of Odisha and the nation as a whole.
“For us, development signifies balanced growth for India and creating opportunities in villages and small towns,” Modi stated.
He praised the Indian banking sector for becoming one of the most efficient globally, providing 24/7 access to banking services for individuals.
Modi highlighted that small business owners, traditional craftsmen, street vendors, and those in the informal economy have gained access to formal banking services for the first time.
He contrasted this with the previous Congress administration, during which banking services were largely accessible only to the wealthy and influential, while the poor, middle-class, and women faced barriers. He claimed that since 2014, a more equitable approach has been adopted, allowing wider access to debit and credit cards that were once considered luxuries.
“The last decade focused on extending banking services to those who were previously excluded. The next decade will center on enhancing the efficiency and reliability of banking services,” Modi added.
The Prime Minister also expressed optimism about Odisha’s future, indicating that the state would thrive in various sectors, from mining to microchips, thereby opening numerous opportunities for the youth.
