Bhubaneswar: Experts and youth, particularly from Generation Z, are urged to promote awareness about pollution prevention and to integrate eco-friendly habits into their everyday routines.
Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia emphasized the need for collective action to create a clean and healthy environment at the OSPCB’s 43rd Foundation Day celebration held at Krushi Siksha Sadan, OUAT on Friday.
“For over four decades, OSPCB has been committed to environmental protection with integrity and transparency. The board plays a crucial role in monitoring air quality across major urban areas and industrial zones, testing the water quality in rivers and other bodies, managing industrial discharges, and advocating for effective waste management practices.
These accomplishments are a testament to the relentless dedication of the Board’s engineers, scientists, administrative staff, and field personnel,” he stated.
During the event, virtual groundbreakings were held for new regional office buildings in Kataka, Koraput, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur. Additionally, the launch of a drone-based monitoring system and an AI chatbot was conducted online.
Singkhuntia also unveiled four publications aimed at raising environmental consciousness: a journal focusing on microplastics and nanoplastics, a compendium detailing best practices for the environment, a comic book addressing water pollution, and a handbook on solid waste management geared towards stakeholders.
The ceremony included the signing of a memorandum of understanding between OSPCB and the NALCO Research and Technology Centre (NRTC) in Gothapatna, concerning fly ash management.
Various organizations were recognized for their efforts in pollution control and environmental safeguarding. Certificates of appreciation for environmental efforts were awarded in the categories of industry, mining, and healthcare, along with an Environment Excellence Award for outstanding performance in the industrial township sector.
Key figures at the event included FE&CC Principal Secretary Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma, K Murugesan, PCCF and Head of Forest Force, OSPCB Member Secretary Manoj V Nair, and OUAT Vice Chancellor Prabhat Kumar Roul.
