In Koraput, Odisha, a Volvo bus operated by the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) fell into a deep gorge, leading to the death of one individual and leaving several others critically injured. Preliminary reports indicate that the bus overturned and dropped more than 50 feet from the road in the early hours of Saturday, resulting in one fatality and over 20 injuries.
The bus was en route from Bhawanipatna to Visakhapatnam when the driver reportedly lost control at a sharp turn, causing the vehicle to veer off the road. Emergency services from Pottangi, Semiliguda, and Jeypore were dispatched to the scene, where they faced challenges due to the steep terrain. Firefighters utilized advanced equipment, including combi-tools, tower lights, rope lines, and stretchers, for the rescue operation. The injured passengers were subsequently transported to a nearby hospital in Potangi for treatment.
