Bhubaneswar: On Friday, Odisha’s Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi revealed a plan to create an expansive 870-acre technology hub at Naraj, located close to Cuttack. This initiative, referred to as the ‘Odisha Silicon Valley,’ is set to support industries in semiconductors, electronics, and IT.
This announcement was made during the Semicon India 2026 event held in New Delhi, where Odisha attracted investment proposals totaling approximately Rs 23,600 crore, potentially leading to the creation of around 6,100 jobs, as stated by the state government.
The technology hub’s location is strategically positioned along the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar urban corridor, providing access to the Paradip and Dhamra ports as well as key national highways. Officials noted that this site is ideal for semiconductor production, logistics, and related industries.
During the event, Mr. Majhi engaged in conversations with representatives from various global and domestic tech firms, industry organizations, and delegations from Japan, Sweden, and Taiwan. Notable companies that interacted with the Odisha team included Lam Research, Applied Materials, SiCSem, 3D Glass Solutions, Cyient, Linde, and HORIBA India.
Furthermore, the state signed a letter of intent with QuadQuantum to establish a silicon carbide (SiC) substrate wafer manufacturing facility in Odisha.
In its efforts to draw semiconductor investments, Odisha has revised its semiconductor policy, offering an additional 25 percent financial support for projects that gain approval under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). This enhanced support is applicable to semiconductor equipment, specialized gases, raw materials, and other supply chain segments.
Additionally, Mr. Majhi inaugurated the Odisha Pavilion at Semicon India 2026, where the state highlighted its semiconductor projects and chip-design initiatives in collaboration with various companies and educational institutions.
The state government asserted that the planned technology hub, combined with increased incentives and its current industrial infrastructure, aims to position Odisha as a leading destination for semiconductor and electronics manufacturing.
