On Wednesday, Odisha is celebrating Vijayadashami with great fervor, marking the conclusion of the five-day Durga Puja celebrations.
As devotees say their goodbyes to Goddess Durga, the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack are making extensive arrangements for the traditional Ravan Dahan ceremonies, which represent the victory of righteousness over malevolence.
In Bhubaneswar, the local government has approved Ravan Dahan events at nine specific locations. Anticipating large crowds, the police, fire services, and local puja committees have implemented rigorous crowd control and fire safety protocols to ensure a safe and enjoyable celebration.
Meanwhile, Cuttack is hosting its 36th Ravan Podi Festival at the Tala Bali Yatra Ground, organized by the Barabati Sarvadharma Sanskrutika Parishad. Notable features of the Cuttack festivities include:
- Imposing Effigy: An impressive 80-foot Ravana effigy is set to be ignited at midnight.
- Traditional Offerings: As part of the Dashami rituals, Dahi Pakhala will be presented to Goddess Durga to pacify her after her battle with Mahishasura.
- Extensive Arrangements: Seating will be available for around 10,000 attendees, along with lively cultural performances featuring artists from various regions and an eye-catching fireworks display.
- Distinguished Guest: The event will be honored by the presence of Manmohan Samal, the state BJP President, as the chief guest.
Authorities in both cities are on high alert to manage traffic, ensure safety, and provide a memorable experience for all participants.
