OMC and AMD Forge Agreement to Explore Critical Minerals in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMD) in Hyderabad, which operates under the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. This collaboration aims to boost the research and exploration of critical minerals in Odisha.

This agreement is in line with the National Critical Mineral Mission, which was initiated by the Government of India in January 2025.

As part of the MoU, OMC and AMD will work together on exploring critical minerals throughout Odisha, encompassing both OMC’s leased mining sites and other promising areas within the state.

The partnership will emphasize the exchange of scientific and technical information, sharing expertise, and fostering research initiatives. Additionally, it will promote the adoption of modern mineral exploration technologies, facilitate scientific studies, and support skill development.

The National Critical Mineral Mission aims to secure a sustainable supply of essential minerals necessary for India’s transition to clean energy, technological growth, and various critical sectors. It also focuses on minimizing the nation’s reliance on imported minerals, enhancing domestic supply chains, and boosting India’s competitiveness on a global scale.

Through this collaboration, OMC and AMD aspire to expedite the exploration and development of critical mineral resources in Odisha. This initiative is anticipated to promote advanced exploration techniques and responsible mining practices, ensuring the sustainable management of mineral resources to fulfill future demands.

The partnership is poised to significantly contribute to establishing Odisha as a central hub for industries reliant on critical minerals. This effort aligns with India’s broader ambition for self-sufficiency in critical minerals and fortifying the nation’s mineral security.

The MoU underscores OMC’s dedication to technology-based mineral exploration and responsible mining, aiming for the sustainable development of the state’s mineral resources. This initiative is expected to further elevate Odisha’s status in India’s critical minerals landscape.
