Bhubaneswar: Tankadhar Tripathy, a BJP leader and MLA from Jharsuguda, has appealed to the Odisha government for the establishment of a Women’s Weavers Centre, a Craft Facilitation Centre, and two Boyanika showrooms within his region.

In a formal request to Pradeep Bal Samanta, the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Handlooms, Textiles, and Handicrafts, Tripathy emphasized the need for a comprehensive Boyanika showroom in Jharsuguda town and an additional one at Jharsuguda Airport.

He described the proposed Women’s Weavers Centre as a facility that would offer workspace, training, design assistance, access to raw materials, and market connections specifically for women weavers in the area.

Moreover, Tripathy advocated for the creation of a Craft Facilitation Centre aimed at enhancing design development, improving product quality, diversifying offerings, providing skill training, and establishing shared facilities for local artisans and weavers.

According to the MLA, Jharsuguda is evolving into an industrial and transportation hub, hosting significant industries, a substantial transient population, and improved air connectivity.

He believes that these proposed initiatives would generate employment opportunities for women weavers and traditional artisans, while also fostering the handloom and handicraft heritage of Odisha.

Additionally, the Boyanika showrooms would serve as a dedicated marketplace for local handloom products, enhancing their visibility and ensuring fair pricing and better market opportunities for weavers.

Tripathy pointed out that the showroom at Jharsuguda Airport would be particularly valuable in showcasing Odisha’s handloom products to tourists, travelers, and other visitors.

He urged the department to consider these proposals positively and take prompt action towards their implementation.
