Almost a month after the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026 was delayed due to a question paper leak, authorities have arrested Bijendra Gupta, who was reportedly living under an alias in Bihar.

Gupta was taken into custody by Bhiwandi Police in Bihar and transported to Pune Airport, from where he will be escorted to Bhiwandi, as reported by ANI.

He is believed to be involved in several paper leak incidents, including those associated with the 2023 Odisha Staff Selection Commission (OSSC) examination, the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exam, and the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) examination.

The preliminary investigation indicated that the confidential examination materials were allegedly obtained directly from Mahim Patran Pvt. Ltd, a private printing company based in Agra, Uttar Pradesh.

Gupta’s arrest follows the earlier detention of three other suspects—Kapil Dahiya, Mithun Singh, and Sonu Singh—who were apprehended in connection with the case from locations in Bihar and Punjab.

The TET 2026 exam was postponed on June 27, just a day before it was set to take place, after law enforcement in Thane, Maharashtra, uncovered that part of the question paper had been leaked, resulting in the arrest of three individuals.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the purported operation spanned across Delhi, Agra, Bihar, and Haryana. Previously, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested Suman Kumari Gupta, Bijendra Gupta’s wife, in Patna after her phone records and financial transactions appeared to connect her to the alleged mastermind.

This paper leak incident came shortly after a national uproar surrounding the NEET-UG paper leak, intensifying concerns about the integrity of competitive examinations.
