New Delhi [India], July 7 (ANI): The Indian government has sanctioned the nationwide rollout of PM-SETU (Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs) across 200 ITI clusters. In addition, it has approved Strategic Investment Plans totaling ₹1,237.58 crore to enhance industrial training institutes in Odisha, Gujarat, and Telangana.
A statement from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship revealed that this decision was made during the 4th National Steering Committee (NSC) meeting of PM-SETU, which was chaired by Debashree Mukherjee, Secretary of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. The gathering included representatives from state governments, industry leaders, and other stakeholders.
The Committee’s approval marks the transition of PM-SETU from its pilot phase to a full-scale national program, enabling States and Union Territories to implement the initiative based on their readiness and capacity to execute it.
“In a major decision, the Committee approved the transition of PM-SETU from its pilot phase to a nationwide rollout across all 200 identified ITI clusters, enabling States and Union Territories to take up implementation based on industry readiness and implementation capacity,” the release stated.
The approved Strategic Investment Plans (SIPs), amounting to ₹1,237.58 crore, include participation from industry leaders such as Jindal Naveen Avasar Limited in Odisha, ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India in Gujarat, and Apollo Medskills with two additional partners in Telangana, who will act as Anchor Industry Partners. These plans, recommended by State Steering Committees, aim at facilitating industry-led enhancements across various ITI clusters throughout the country.
“The standout outcome of the meeting was the approval of Strategic Investment Plans (SIPs) worth a combined outlay of ₹1,237.58 crore, with leading industrial names Jindal Naveen Avasar Limited in Odisha and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India in Gujarat stepping in as Anchor Industry Partners, alongside Apollo Medskills and two other approved ITI clusters in Telangana. The SIPs, recommended by the respective State Steering Committees, pave the way for industry-led upgradation of multiple ITI clusters nationwide,” the release noted.
According to the announcement, the investments planned for Odisha and Gujarat are ₹240.21 crore and ₹240.18 crore respectively, while Telangana is set to receive a total investment of ₹757.19 crore. PM-SETU aims to modernize India’s ITI ecosystem.
