Four players from the district were instrumental in Punjab’s bronze medal achievement at the 31st Sub-Junior National Baseball Championship. The event took place at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, from May 24 to 29.
Mankirat Singh from Ludhiana led the team as captain, demonstrating commendable leadership throughout the tournament. He was joined by teammates Chirag, Ayush, and Ratan Kumar, who all made significant contributions.
Punjab remained undefeated during the league stage, securing convincing wins against Telangana and Uttar Pradesh. The team triumphed over Andhra Pradesh in the quarter-finals. Despite facing a defeat against Maharashtra in the semi-finals, the players rallied to claim victory over Delhi with a score of 9-5 in the bronze medal match.
In addition to the team’s success, Punjab’s Karamveer Singh was recognized as the best catcher of the tournament for his outstanding performance.
Officials from the Punjab Baseball Association congratulated the players and coaching staff, expressing optimism that the state’s young baseball talent will continue to excel in future competitions.
